Import your books from Goodreads or StoryGraph.
BookPocket reads the export files Goodreads and StoryGraph already give you: your shelves, ratings, reading dates, reviews and tags. Importing opens with the beta. You can export your library today, so the file is ready when it does.
From StoryGraph
- Open your profile, then Manage Account.
- Choose Export StoryGraph Library.
- StoryGraph emails you a CSV file. Keep it somewhere you can find it.
From Goodreads
- Go to My Books, then Import and export.
- Choose Export Library.
- The CSV file appears on that page when it's ready, usually in a few minutes.
You bring the file as it is. BookPocket works out which app it came from, so there's nothing to convert and nothing to choose.
What comes across
-
Your shelves and tags
Read, currently reading, want to read and did not finish, with the date you added each book. Your own tags and custom shelves become your tags here.
-
Ratings and reading dates
Half stars from StoryGraph and whole stars from Goodreads. A book you never rated arrives unrated.
-
Reviews and notes
Reviews come across as reviews. Goodreads' private notes stay private, on your own copy.
-
What you own
Books marked as owned, and whether you read them in print, as an ebook or on audio.
Who recommended it comes too
Neither app has anywhere to say who told you about a book, so some
readers keep it in a tag. Tag a book recommendation-sarah-ahmed
before you export, and it arrives here with Sarah Ahmed as its source. A book
tagged priority
arrives flagged as one to read next.
Good to know
- Each book is matched to the books we have by its ISBN first, then by title and author. When a match isn't certain, the book waits in a list for you to confirm or add by hand.
- A large library takes a while. Books we don't have yet take longer, and a few thousand of them takes about an hour. You can leave the page.
- Goodreads adds the series to a book's title, like "(Discworld, #4)". BookPocket leaves it off, so the book matches the title on its cover.
- Importing the same file twice doesn't add anything twice.
